Federation Internationale de Football Association chief Blatter deserves Nobel Peace Prize: Putin
The Swiss justice ministry has frozen millions of Swiss francs in alleged “corruption money” from banks accounts connected to FIFA, as world football’s governing body commenced ethics committee hearings in Zurich on Thursday.
That’s the one to be awarded (the) Nobel Peace Prize, ‘ Putin said.
“His contribution to the global humanitarian sphere is colossal”, the Russian leader said, suggesting that Western “machinations” were behind the ongoing inquiry. Because of these and other efforts, Putin concluded by saying that Blatter was deserving of the Novel Peace Prize.
At the hearing Blatter claimed his innocence and demanded he be allowed to resume his role at the head of governing body.
Blatter was suspended on October 8 from all soccer-related activity for 90 days alongside European (UEFA) soccer chief Michel Platini pending a full investigation into their conduct.
Despite the multitude of controversies surrounding the 79-year-old-ESPN FC have compiled an extensive list of the scandals that have so far been revealed-there’s no denying world football has undergone an incredible transformation under Blatter’s watch.
The Investigatory Chamber of the Ethics Committee has already requested sanctions against him, as well as Platini, following its deliberations, with the case then passed to Eckert’s Adjudicatory Chamber.
Blatter was charged by the ethics committee after Switzerland’s attorney general opened criminal proceedings against him for the payment to Platini, who is boycotting his own ethics hearing Friday.
Putin said at the time that he didn’t believe one word about corruption connected with Blatter.
The 2million Swiss franc payment was made to Platini in February 2011. The action involved about 50 accounts in 10 Swiss banks.
Instead of attending the Women’s World Cup in the highly extraditable country of Canada this summer, outgoing Federation Internationale de Football Association president Sepp Blatter visited the safe haven that is Russia, where he was feted by President Vladimir Putin.
Defenders of Blatter say he did much to develop the sport, including by taking the showpiece World Cup to new countries like South Africa, which hosted it in 2010, and Russian Federation and Qatar, which are due to do so in 2018 and 2022.
