Obama Calls Tennessee Teen A Hero Who Died Protecting Others In Shooting
While President Obama has taken to Twitter to pay tribute to Dobson’s courageous act, police say one of the suspects died from a gunshot wound while two others have since been arrested.
Police have called the shooting gang-related, but don’t believe Dobson was a specific target.
President Barack Obama says a Tennessee high school football player who was killed shielding three female friends from gunfire died a hero.
Unfortunately, that group of teenagers included Zaevion, his brother and some friends, who were all sitting out on the porch.
Her son, 23-year-old Brandon Perry, then drove off with several other men and entered Dobson’s neighborhood, where, according to police, they “randomly fired multiple times”.
Knoxville police chief, David Rausch said the shootings that killed Dobson began Thursday night, when the first person shot was Lisa Perry, who was inside her apartment at the time.
Friend Jaylin Posey said Dobson’s actions were heroic. Just know that I miss him.
Dobson was a sophomore at Fulton High School, which brought in counselors to speak to students taking makeup tests Friday morning.
Zaevion was not only a football player, but a mentor to his peers, Mayor Madeline Rogero told CNN affiliate WATE. “Involved in sports, a mentee of one of our organizations in town”.
The sophomore played linebacker and fullback for his high school football team, compiling 32 tackles and a sack.
“Going to be a tough time as we leave from here and go meet with our football players”, Black said.
