Affluenza Teen Disappears After Probation Violation, Cops On The Hunt
That would be a red flag to officials in foreign countries that Couch is wanted in the U.S., Defenbaugh said.
Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson says the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Marshal’s fugitive task force have an excellent record of finding people around the globe, and can work with foreign governments, if necessary. The U.S. Marshals Service posted photos of Ethan Couch online Friday, along with a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
A sheriff at the Tarrant County police department told reporters Hunt is at the top of his “most wanted” list. Two passengers in Couch’s auto were severely injured. His blood alcohol was three times the legal limit for an adult.
Couch, from Keller, near Fort Worth, admitted to four counts of intoxication manslaughter.
Couch was found guilty, but the defense argued he had “affluenza”.
The impact killed Shelbie Boyles, her mother Hollie, their friend Breanna Mitchell and a passerby and pastor, Brian Jennings, who stopped to help.
Two teens who were riding in the bed of the pickup were ejected on impact, authorities said. The other suffered broken bones and internal injuries.
The teen’s light sentence evoked anger across the country.
“I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so”, Anderson has said. I predicted two years ago that something bad was going to happen of this.
You can run, but you’re always going to be looking over your shoulder. Couch checked in with probation officer around the time of the video going viral, however, and no action was taken against him.
That’s why, in his victim impact statement in court in 2013, Lucas McConnell told Couch, “While I think we should do our best at forgiving, I believe if this situation is not handled with severity, you won’t take it seriously”. “We’re fairly confident that we’ll be able to find him”. Samantha Jordan, a spokesperson for the Tarrant County district attorney, confirmed the additional support on Thursday. “They have the ability to disappear”, he said.
Couch’s mother is thought to be on the run with her son, but officials have not said whether she is facing charges as well. But even if a judge approves the request, it would not go into effect until after his 19th birthday in April.
A Texas court issued a warrant for Couch’s arrest Wednesday; earlier this month, a Twitter user uploaded a video of Couch playing beer pong with a group of teenaged boys. Such a failure would be a probation violation, according to Dallas News. The teen, who was 16 at the time, was sentenced to 10 years probation.
If caught, Couch faces a 10-year prison sentence.
Couch is now on probation, and isn’t supposed to be drinking alcohol. He was also ordered to attend a rehabilitation facility.
