Steve Harvey Crowns the Wrong Miss Universe, ‘Still a Great Night!’
Steve Harvey and Miss Colombia as he apologizes for mistakenly declaring her the victor of the Miss Universe pageant December 20, 2015.
Harvey said it was his mistake and he would take responsibility for not reading the card correctly that named contestant Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach this year’s victor and Miss Colombia the first runner-up.
Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurztbach, was the rightful victor, so outgoing Miss Universe, Paulina Vega, had the unenviable task of removing the crown from Gutierrez-Arévalo’s head and placing it on Wurtzbach.
Colombia’s president said Monday (Dec 21) he was shocked when Miss Colombia won and then immediately lost the Miss Universe crown, and said as far as he was concerned she remained the victor. How anyone would possibly think that is beyond me, but I assume Harvey was nervously trying to say “something”.
Trump sued and eventually settled with NBC and bought the network’s stake in Miss Universe. “Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines”. It was just an honest mistake.
Harvey tweeted after the event: “I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake”.
“Things happen. It’s live television”, Trump said.
Not even Donald Trump could’ve orchestrated the debacle at Sunday night’s Miss Universe pageant.
Live TV can be great, but the truth is, most “live TV” is staged and rehearsed, at award shows and beauty pageants and news shows alike – right down to those stunning pearly white smiles.
“Ok folks, uh, there’s – “I have to apologize, the “Family Feud” host said”. In addition, he praised the pageant and the wonderful contestants. She says she realized it was, “probably bad timing”. Because what happened to the girl from Colombia is devastating, to give it to her for a couple of minutes and then take it away.
