Adele Marvels at American Fans
Adele really doesn’t have to worry about sales these days.
Between setting new sales records with her album 25 and a tour that sold out in minutes, Adele has clearly found a special place in the hearts of music lovers in the USA.
It sold 3.38 million copies in its opening week, which was almost a million copies more than the previous first-week record.
She believes that artists should strive to be deeper than a “brand”, and more like a package for their fans. So what does that mean, exactly? She then waxed uncertainty at the future of streaming music, and while she acknowledged that it isn’t going away, she stated that she simply “can’t pledge allegiance to something that I don’t know how I feel about yet”.
“Some artists, the bigger they get, the more frightful they get, and the more unlikable”, she admitted. And I don’t care if you make an unbelievable album – if I don’t like you, I ain’t (sic) getting your record. Says Adele. “Maybe they think I’m related to the Queen”.
That’s not the only thing Adele has a strong opinion on.
We reckon Adele must be pretty chuffed with herself after the past few weeks she’s been having. Citing criticism over the use of a dated landline and flip phone in her “Hello” music video, the singer said, “I still use landlines…It is so unlikely I’d have a flip phone in this day and age”. I buy my music. “It’s a bit disposable, streaming”.
It’s not surprising to hear that she’s against streaming. Now Adele has gone on the record about the decision to stay off Spotify and Apple Music as she reflects on her recent mega-success in Time magazine’s cover story on the singer.
Adele is the music star who closed out 2015.
“It was unbelievable”, Adele said of Swift’s actions. “I loved [being a mom]”, she said. And I tried it and I didn’t like the way it felt. Everyone falls apart, I think. “I’m not saying my album is incredible, but there’s conviction in it”, she said. This shouldn’t be news right now. “I don’t go in sections”.
