Peyton Manning misses practice with sore foot
Broncos coach Gary Kubiak says Brock Osweiler (non-throwing shoulder) is “sore”, but that “all indications are he’ll be OK”. Kubiak said following Sunday’s game he expected Manning to practice at least some in the coming week.
Manning, 39, has been sidelined with a variety of injuries, the most serious of which is a foot injury.
Yesterday, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported that Peyton Manning has made it known that he won’t be happy as the Broncos’ backup-that is, if Manning gets healthy and ready to play, he wants to reclaim the starting job. “… We’re a football team and we go about our day that way all the time”.
Kubiak had previously said that his meeting with Manning would be important to determine where the team would go next. “We’ll have a plan in place by the time we get to Wednesday”.
In the win over the Patriots the following week, the offense had the ball 15 times, and astoundingly when three-and-out eight times, with one of those drives ending with a third-and-four interception that Osweiler threw.
The Broncos gave up 24 unanswered points to the Steelers on Sunday in a shocking 34-27 loss that endangered their postseason standing.
As he exited the locker room to speak to Steelers owner Dan Rooney, Manning was asked if he had any response to the report.
Manning had played the role of scout-team quarterback as Osweiler continued to get the first-team reps with the offense. Manning has the name and the legacy, but Osweiler has the front-office and coaching support and, maybe, the future of the franchise in his hands. I’m proud of Brock. That game, of course, feature Manning’s four interceptions and 0.0 passer rating.
“It is a trying time for Peyton Manning, who has always been a starter his entire career”, Rapoport said on NFL GameDay Morning. He played 15 snaps against the Raiders last Sunday in his first action since he aggravated a back injury against the Colts on November 8.
“If you’re kicking field goals in the red area and you’re not getting touchdowns eventually it will come back to bite you and that’s exactly what happened on Sunday and that’s what we are working on fixing”. “For (anyone) to suggest that a healthy Peyton Manning wouldn’t help his team lacks integrity and fundamental knowledge of Peyton and what he stands for”.
