11 taken to hospital after car hits people on Vegas Strip
Her identity has not been officially released yet but the Oldsmobile had OR plates. She was convicted in March 2012.
Holloway last lived in OR and had been in Las Vegas for about a week, where she was believed to be homeless and living in the vehicle, authorities said. “She has been speaking to detectives, they are drawing her blood, and she will be – I expect her to be charged within the next few hours”, McGrath told journalists.
People jumped on the auto and banged on its windows, but Lakeisha N. Holloway, 24, would not stop driving on the sidewalk, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo told reporters. She is being held in the Clark County jail with charges pending.
The injured were taken to area hospitals.
Traffic snaked down the streets as cars were diverted near the Paris Las Vegas hotel, where the Strip was shut down.
“We have determined that this is an intentional act”.
Holloway’s daughter was not injured and has been taken into protective custody.
“She accelerated again and just kept mowing people down”.
Police said the female driver, who had a three-year-old passenger in the auto, has been detained.
He says Holloway was believed to be from OR and had been in Las Vegas for about a week.
The incident occurred yesterday, on same night that Las Vegas was hosting the Miss Universe pageant, which saw the crowning of Miss Philippines. No conditions were immediately available. “But, with that admonishment, we are still working through it with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation”.
Las Vegas Police Officer Jesse Roybal said the incident did not appear to be a terrorist act.
Witnesses describe seeing a auto TWICE swerving into crowds. A 3-year-old child was in the vehicle with her but was not hurt, Zimmerman said.
“What we’ve heard is that a vehicle drove up on the sidewalk by Planet Hollywood and continued past Paris Hotel”, Kitterød said.
Gov. Brian Sandoval issued a statement Sunday night offering the state’s help.
Jessica Valenzuela, 32, was from Buckeye, west of Phoenix. A cause of death is pending, with an autopsy scheduled Monday. “(It’s) unknown if it’s an intentional act or impairment act”, he said. The driver is in custody.
Police are reviewing video from casino-hotel surveillance cameras, Capt. Brett Zimmerman said.
According to Las Vegas Metro police, the crash happened at 6:37 p.m. on Las Vegas Boulevard in front of the Planet Hollywood hotel-casino. Five were Canadian citizens and four were OR college students in town to compete in a wrestling tournament.
Danita Cohen, spokeswoman for University Medical Center, said 15 crash victims were brought to its trauma center, one of whom died.
In September 2005, three tourists were killed and almost a dozen injured when a auto barreled through the crowd on the Las Vegas Strip and crashed into a cement barrier in front of Bally’s hotel-casino.
Cohen says two others at the hospital are in serious condition.
Multiple police and fire trucks raced to the scene to treat the victims at around 7pm local time.
