We are good enough to beat City: Wenger
Both managers dismiss it, but Manchester City’s trip to Arsenal tomorrow (HK time) is being billed as a clash between the two teams most capable of lifting the English Premier League title.
With the rest of the league treating Leicester as interlopers in the top four, the Arsenal vs. Manchester City clash on Monday could be seen as an early indicator of which of the pair might eventually emerge as Barclays Premier League champion for the 2015-2016 campaign.
Arsenal will be missing the likes of Santi Carzola, Francis Coquelin, Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere while City are missing captain Vincent Kompany, Paulo Zabaleta and the suspended Fernando. One of City’s unsung heroes this season, the Serbian has proved his importance to the team once again this season. From a 3-2 City win at Highbury in 1975-76 season, there was not another victory on North London soil until a closely fought League Cup tie in 2011 fell City’s way with a last minute goal from Aguero.
Manchester City and Arsenal do battle on Monday evening, after everyone else has concluded their weekend exercise.
“We had many players on the flanks, but when Sterling was at QPR – that’s where we should take the players”, the Gunners boss rued. Perhaps the most worrying part is that, at St. James’ Park, Newcastle are far superior to when they travel; at home they’ve scored 13 and conceded 12, while away from home they’ve only managed to score five, while conceding 18.
“I played with Yaya Toure at Barcelona and he will go down as one of the best midfielders to ever grace this league”. You could see us in Athens against Olympiacos [on December 9]: we just needed two goals but we went for the third one.
It’s a good target to return to clean sheets and to advance in positions. It’s impossible just to think there are two teams involved in the title.
Man City have won none of their last four league away fixtures and failed to score in the last three in a row. The Gunners are back up to second in the table and will look at this home match as a chance to widen the gap between themselves and City.
Arsenal, and Ozil, are boosted by the return to training of Alexis Sanchez ahead of the game, counter-balancing City who will have Sergio Aguero fit to feature.
Emmanuel Adebayor, Samir Nasri, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy have all left the Emirates Stadium to join City in recent seasons but – now they are on a better financial footing themselves – Wenger insists the club can decide whether players will leave or not. It’s a good buy for Man City.
