Miss Universe host Steve Harvey names wrong victor of pageant
That’s exactly what happened during Sunday night’s Miss Universe contest when host Steve Harvey misread the ballot card, and announced the wrong pageant victor. “THERE IS NO ROOM FOR HUMAN ERROR IN A BEAUTY PAGEANT I SAY LET THE WITCH HUNT BEGIN!” he quipped.
For its part, Gabriela Women’s Party, a leftist group that advocates women’s rights, said that Ms. Wurtzbach’s favorable view of United States military presence in the country “contradicts her concern for humanity”, the group said in a statement. He then announced that Gutiérrez was, in fact, the runner-up and the victor was Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
“Everything happens for a reason”, Gutierrez said just moments after the incident occurred while wiping tears from her eyes.
Stripped of the win, Gutierrez kept her composure backstage when asked if she had anything to say to her fans about the unfortunate mix-up.
“I did not take the crown from her”, Wurtzbach told reporters after the pageant concluded, saying she wished the contestant from Colombia well and hoped the Latin American community understands that “none of this was my fault”.
Entertainment Tonight reports that their reporter, Nischelle Turner, was there.
Wait, how did Steve Harvey mess this up?
“None of this was done on objective”. According to USA Today, his original version of the tweet misspelled both Philippines and Colombia. And he did that correctly until it came to announcing the first runner-up, which he stated was the Philippines, making Colombia Miss Universe.
Before Harvey revealed his error, Santos wrote: “Colombians!”
Will the real Miss Universe please stand up?
But seconds later, Santos had to reverse himself.
“Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines”, Harvey continued, showing his notecard to the cameras as proof. “We feel so badly, but still a great night”.
Of course, we can’t forget that one current Republican presidential frontrunner by the name of Donald Trump used to own the organization that puts on the Miss Universe pageant.
