Ramsey looks for Arsenal to put pressure on title rivals
Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud, 3rd left, is congratulated by teammates after scoring from the penalty spot during the English Premier League soccer match between Aston Villa and Arsenal at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015.
The France international’s penalty and Aaron Ramsey’s breakaway goal gave the Gunners a comfortable 2-0 win at rock bottom Aston Villa on Sunday.
With his 50th league goal, Olivier Giroud has joined an elite group of Arsenal players and carved out his own place in club folklore with his first hat-trick for the Gunners coming in the Champions League.
I still believe we have the talent to win games. ‘He’s questioned sometimes but finally the numbers get people to realise that he’s a good player.
“I think it’s probably the tie of the round and it’s not going to be easy”, he added.
Because he does not have electric pace. “He is also mentally very strong, too”.
The Frenchman started his reign at Villa in promising fashion after holding Manchester City to a goalless draw, but his side entered their clash with the Gunners having not won in four games since he replaced Tim Sherwood at the helm on November 2.
But although the outlook appears bleak for Garde barely a month into his tenure as Villa manager, Wenger still believes he can overturn the odds and revive the club’s fortunes. It is a fantastic week. It is nice and hopefully we can have a great game against Manchester City on Monday.
Ramsey then finished off a slick-counter attack just before half-time and Arsenal were able to ease through the rest of the match.
It is therefore, Arsenal’s best chance to win their first league title since 2004.
A repeat didn’t seem likely after conceding so early. “I think most Arsenal fans would have wanted to avoid them but it’s up to us to put on a performance”.
Scott Sinclair then wasted a golden chance on 57 minutes when he planted an unmarked header over from six yards. If most teams beat an increasingly sorry Aston Villa, the cumulative effect of the last nine days – when Arsenal’s three victories have brought them eight goals and nine points in two different competitions – is to suggest they have recaptured the confidence that can propel them on to extended winning runs. “But it’s a busy period and we have to remain consistent through that and see where we are in the new year”.
Arsenal have shown the professionalism this season which we have hardly associated with them in the recent past. “I know that in football you can change things with work and concentration”.
