NFL discussing discipline against Giants WR Beckham
Beckham had three unnecessary roughness penalties throughout the game.
Norman shut him down completely this first half of the game and also Beckham dropped a wide open touchdown pass on the opening drive of the game.
When you have a good team, playing at home, fighting for their lives. you can’t give them life. “You go back and watch the film tomorrow and you learn from it”. Beckham was guilty of three personal foul penalties.
Many people were calling for Beckham’s ejection as the game wore on, with Norman echoing those sentiments post-game.
The worst was Beckham charging from his own sideline to hit Norman with a diving, head-to-head block attempt.
“The guy ran 15 yards down the field – a dead on collision”, Norman said. And where Cam uses the Man of Steel as is signature celebration, Norman considers himself the Dark Knight when he’s on the field.
Beckham will appeal the suspension and will likely be allowed to play this Sunday night in Minnesota. “The actions of the players involved in unsportsmanlike conduct will be reviewed as per the standard protocol that is followed in all situations of this type throughout the season”. At some point, Norman got a hold of the bat and started swinging it, a move that Beckham felt threatened by.
To put it over the top, it was helmet-to-helmet. “That’s targeting. If that’s a defensive player he’s kicked out of the game”, Lewis said. “In fact, it was a strong consideration”, said Coughlan, who in the end decided he needed Beckham on the field as the Giants strained to keep pace in the NFC East race. “It was just malicious in every way”, Norman said after the game, per Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer. “I think it was personal”.
Newton stayed away from the nastiness around him, finishing with 340 yards passing and five touchdowns. Newton, who threw for five touchdowns to further state his case for NFL Most Valuable Player honors, wasn’t quite sure what he’d just been through.
The Jets (9-5) playoff hopes were dealt a huge blow when Pittsburgh came back to beat Denver on Sunday, and the Jets are now faced with the prospect of going 11-5 and possibly missing the playoffs.
If the suspension is upheld, Beckham would not be permitted this week to be at the Giants’ practice facility.
Carolina had a 35-7 lead late in the third quarter before the Giants rallied, scoring four unanswered touchdowns and tying the game at 35 with 1 minute, 46 seconds remaining. Shane Vereen’s 8-yard reception brought NY within seven.
