NFL suspends Giants WR Beckham for 1 game
Going without Beckham, one of the NFL’s most talented receivers, leaves a void in New York’s offensive game plan. Specifically, Beckham was suspended for multiple violations of safety-related playing rules. He would be barred from team meetings, attending or watching practices; attending Sunday’s game; or having contact with any club personnel except to arrange off-site medical treatment or rehabilitation.
Still, timing and context could’ve been factors in the league’s suspension. Beckham was flagged for a personal foul, one of three he picked up in the game.
Coughlin said he seriously considered taking his star receiver out of the game to calm him down.
Carolina are aiming to become the second National Football League team ever to complete a ideal season after the 1972 Miami Dolphins went 17-0, going all the way through to a Super Bowl win. In the third quarter, Beckham launched himself at Norman’s head, and has been suspended for one game by the NFL.
“Terrell Owens on his worst day, Randy Moss on his worst day, never even approached what we saw from Beckham yesterday”, Francesa said.
Odell Beckham Jr. wasn’t the only player at MetLife Stadium looking to bring the wood Sunday. The suspension comes at disgusting time for the Giants, who are in the middle of a heated division race.
The Giants trail the Washington Redskins for first place in the NFC East by one game.
Francesa also suggested that the Giants’ front office and coaching staff is so “afraid of [Beckham’s] talent” that they would not discipline him for his selfish actions, which the Giants should be “embarrassed” by.
Winning without Beckham won’t be easy either.
That was the most blatant hit between the two, as they were physical with each other essentially from the opening kickoff.
If the suspension is upheld, Beckham would miss Sunday night’s nationally televised game against the Vikings.
Hopefully for the Giants’ case, Beckham did “learn”.
Citing past protocol, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network believes the appeals hearing will be Tuesday and that a decision will come “no later than Wednesday morning”. This is where things get dicey.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the NFL thought Beckham’s actions-including other dust-ups with Norman-warranted an ejection.
