Watch the Awkward Moment When the Wrong Miss Universe Is Crowned
Steve Harvey’s wife Instagrammed a message of support for her husband on Monday morning after he accidentally crowned the wrong contestant at the Miss Universe pageant. “I will take responsibility for this”.
Will the real Miss Universe please stand up?
Miss Colombia 2015, Ariadna Gutierrez, has her crown removed by Miss Universe 2014, Paulina Vega, and given to the victor of Miss Universe 2015, Miss Phillipines 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
When asked about the awkward incident, she said it was: “Very 2015!”
“I think, yeah, I know they’re going to be calling me today, and they’ve already got a call scheduled, what would I do?”
Confirmation for Wurtzbach didn’t arrive until she was able to speak to her newly appointed Miss Universe manager. Except she didn’t-Miss Philippines was actually the victor, and Harvey mistakenly read out the wrong name.
“I feel bad”, one of his tweets said.
“Everything happens for a reason, so I’m happy”, a teary Gutierrez said backstage, surrounded by a group of fellow contestants who embraced her and yelled “We love you, Colombia!” “The first runner-up is Colombia”, Harvey said. But the contestants at the center of the gaffe – Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez and the actual victor, Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach – have responded with grace. Some empathized with Harvey, while others found humor in it. Twitter user Rude Comedian shared a meme of Harvey that said, “Happy Friday!”
Trump was quick to weigh in on Sunday’s error, declaring the mistake would “never have happened” during his time as owner.
As all this was unfolding, a vehicle drove up onto a sidewalk and struck dozens of people just outside the Planet Hollywood hotel-casino where the pageant was taking place.
That same month, Trump sold the organization that includes the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants to entertainment company WME-IMG.
“I don’t want to take away from this awesome night and pageant”.
“What’s most important is now she won and we are celebrating as a country”.
