Dallas Cowboys QB Kellen Moore will start vs. Buffalo Bills
The Cowboys fell to 4-10 and were officially eliminated from playoff contention.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Kellen Moore (17) throws a pass in the first half of an NFL football game against the New York Jets on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, in Arlington, Texas.
Matt Cassel admits he’s destined to be on National Football League blooper reels forever after a 19-16 loss to the Jets in which the only thing he efficiently passed was … the torch … to fairy-tale QB candidate Kellen Moore.
Veteran Jeremy Kerley had been the Jets’ third receiver in recent years, but the 5-foot-9, 188-pounder fell out of favor with the new coaching regime and has been relegated mostly to punt returns. Moore was with the Detroit Lions from 2012-14 but never played in a regular season game; he signed with Dallas this year. “We continued what we learned from the Giants game and played a good second half”. “We’re developing a strength… a confidence”.
The quarterback did most of his work with a flap of skin on his nose glued shut after it was torn at the end of a scramble.
“I’m done with photo shots with Decker, I guess”, Fitzpatrick kidded. “That’s out the window. That usually happens during the game anyway”.
The Jets trailed 13-9 entering the fourth quarter.
Your take on 4 in a row, being 9-5, sort of in position here for a playoff spot, if you can finish business in last couple games… “We can’t hang from the rafters right now because of a little win streak”. “I don’t know that it necessarily influences our thought process on what we might do in the draft or what we might do looking at a younger quarterback in terms of our future”. You’ve got to win the tough, gritty ones.
The Cowboys, like in all of their close losses this season (or some of them), held the lead for a short while.
Marshall caught four balls for 74 yards in the victory. We’ve got great chemistry. Although the win was ugly, their quarterback continues to step up big when Gang Green needs it most. Their top-ranked run defense allowed Dallas to run for 133 yards on Saturday night, let alone Darren McFadden to run for the century mark.
There’s no question that Todd Bowles has to be commended for the tremendous job he’s done with this year’s New York Jets. Thus, we can authoritatively state that the Texans are better than the Cowboys this year.
But Fitzpatrick then threw it directly to Terrance Mitchell for the first interception by a Dallas cornerback this season. But everything turned around for him and NY in the final 15 minutes, when Fitzpatrick was 10 of 10 for 132 yards and the TD.
Breitbart Sports’ Dan Leberfeld was on hand in the Jets locker room in AT&T Stadium after the game to record the wide receiver’s reflections on the win.
Moore had a chance to add to that lead but threw his second interception to Calvin Pryor in the end zone in the third quarter, shortly before Fitzpatrick threw it directly to Terrance Mitchell.
“Take the good with the bad”, Moore said. “Playoffs or not, we have to string some games together”. Going into the week they needed help in the form of loses by either the Steelers or the Chiefs. If he can not get a win in the final two games of the season, he will likely find himself on the free agent market next off-season.
