Martin Shkreli Fired as KaloBios CEO
News source via queerty.com Last Thurs., the 32-year-old price gouger was once arrested (taken in to custody) via the Federal Bureau of Investigation & charged with securities fraud & conspiracy for some asserted shady shenanigans he dedicated while he becomerunning for the biopharmaceutical company Retrophin. The allegations brought against him include using money from Retrophin, his first pharmaceutical company, to settle his debts related to his hedge fund and investors, and duping his investors in hedge funds.
He is accused of lying to investors, moving money between investments to cover losses in other vehicles and siphoning off cash for personal expenses.
He gained widespread notoriety in late summer after his company Turing Pharmaceuticals jacked up the price of its drug Daraprim from $13.50 per pill to $750, and then made himself more notorious by insulting his many critics via Twitter, and reveling in their scorn. The medication is used to treat toxoplasmosis, a parasitic disease that afflicts people with compromised immune systems, such as pregnant women and individuals afflicted with AIDS.
Shkreli through his press relations firm said he is confident he will be cleared of all charges, adding that some of the charges involved “complex accounting matters” that authorities failed to understand.
In a statement, KaloBios, said that Tony Chase also stepped down from the company’s board.
Among the hacked tweets posted on Shkreli’s account were offers to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to charity, and to give away the Wu-Tang album to the next follower who retweeted him.
“Trying to find anything we could to stop him, was the attitude of the government”, Shkreli said.
Shkreli, already reviled by the public for astronomical price gouging on a life-saving drug, was terminated by KaloBios Pharmaceuticals, the company disclosed Monday.
Meanwhile, Shkreli’s Twitter account was hacked Sunday.
Shkreli has pled not guilty in federal court and has been released on $5 million bail.
The hackers changed Shkreli’s name to “Martin The God” and his bio to “f*** Yall…”.
The price of KaloBios shares dropped dramatically shortly after his arrest – and trading has been halted ever since, according to Bloomberg Business.
