Jeb Bush Calls Donald Trump ‘A Jerk’
Bush, eager to energize his sagging campaign, brought the fight to Trump on the debate stage, repeatedly talking over the billionaire as the pair tangled. “I gave myself therapy there”.
“Beverly Bruce just said she was going to support me after the holidays”, he told his videographer as other reporters and cameras were present.
On Sunday Trump predicted that Bush will soon exit the Republican presidential race, saying that “he’s going to be off the stage soon”.
The governor’s frustration with Trump has fumed from passing annoyance to focused attack even as Trump continues to surge in national polls while Bush languishes in single digits. She also attended the New Hampshire primary ballot filing with Bush and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.
Bush, for his part, says he’s stepping up his criticism on Trump now because Trump is displaying shallow ideas on foreign policy.
He pointed to Trump apparent ignorance in last week’s GOP presidential debate about what the nuclear triad is. “He has no clue”.
He continued, “He’s got two percent in the polls, I have 41 percent in the latest poll”. Bush is competing with Kasich, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Florida Sen.
“Donald, you know, is great at the one-liners but he’s a chaos candidate and he’d be a chaos president, he would not be the commander-in-chief we need to keep our country safe”, Bush said.
Bush’s jab comes the same day that the super PAC supporting his White House bid, Right to Rise, released a new TV ad hitting Trump. A voter asked Bush if he could show in the rest of his campaign the same passion he shows in town halls, a worry perhaps stemming from Trump’s early branding of Bush as “low energy”.
Trump accused Bush of slinging mud to cover up his poor campaign performance. And he suggested the wrong choice could hurt the state’s first-in-the-nation primary.
