Will Odell Beckham Jr. Be Suspended By the NFL?
During the Giants’ 38-35 loss to the Panthers at MetLife Stadium, Beckham was flagged three times for personal fouls as the competitive banter between Carolina cornerback Josh Norman and Beckham escalated to the point of multiple physical confrontations.
Suffice it to say that Sunday’s game against the Panthers was the worst outing in Odell Beckham Jr.’s short, meteoric career. Beckham, blocking down the field on the outside, charged into the middle of the field and leveled Norman with a vicious hit, leading with his helmet, slamming into the side of Norman’s helmet.
However, Carolina would go on to win the game on a last-second field goal by Graham Gano.
“I hope I pulled that mask off. I pulled back the face of what that dude really is”, said Norman.
The Panthers retained their ideal record with the 38-35 win, moving to 14-0.
As the Giants await news from the National Football League regarding possible punishment for Beckham following his actions, coach Tom Coughlin and QB Eli Manning expressed support for their star wide receiver on Monday.
Nobody expected the Panthers to be sitting at 14-0 with two games to play but they have been able to prove the doubters wrong week after week.
Is Odell Beckham’s lack of composure and mental meltdown against the Panthers going to cost him a game?
One day later, we have a bit clearer of an idea on what could’ve been on Beckham’s mind and it seems that gay slurs and threatening gestures with baseball bats during pre-game are at the forefront.
All-in-all, as more comes to light, the story of the events that took place on Sunday just gets stranger and stranger.
The New York Giants lost to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in yet another final-second heart-breaker.
Nearly everyone else was willing to talk about it, especially the Panthers and Norman, who also got nailed for a personal foul for roughing Beckham on a tackle.
“Because I wanted him to play the game”, Coughlin said. He later scored a game-tying touchdown and then stepped over Norman, Allen-Iverson style.
“He’s got the maturity of a little kid”, Norman added of Beckham, who finished with six catches for 72 yards and a touchdown and also dropped a sure TD pass in the first quarter.
Best believe the other teams took notice: Carolina nearly choked away that game to the Giants. “We’re out there playing football”.
“It was kind of a weird feeling in that locker room, and I’m still feeling kind of weird, but not enough to (not) celebrate”, Newton said.
