James Franco to remake ‘Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?’
James Franco just keeps on bein’ James Franco: Vulture has reported that the rascally multi-hyphenate will produce a remake of NBC’s classic made-for-TV movie, Mother, May I Sleep With Danger? for Lifetime.
The retelling of the critically-panned cult classic will coincide with the original TV movie’s 20th anniversary. His title of executive producer is shared with Spring Breakers’ Vince Jolivette, and Lifetime producers Diane Sokolow and Rachel Verno. Spelling will star in the new remake, probably as the mother, though neither Sony nor Lifetime have officially confirmed the casting yet. Coney will also appear in the upcoming adaptation of Francos novel Actors Anonymous, which is being directed by Melanie Aitkenhead, who will also be at the helm of this project, according to THR. Over the years, it has garnered a passionate following by way of reruns on cable nets, including Lifetime. And who would you cast to succeed Spelling and Ivan Sergei as the young lovebirds? Earlier this year it drew tons of buzz and high ratings with the meta not-quite-spoof A Deadly Adoption, starring Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig. With repeats, the film brought in around six million viewers during its premiere weekend.
