Lexus makes cool looking and completely unnecessary ice wheels
Again, Lexus did not reveal which version of the SUV was used for their ice wheels project. It was actually driven down a London street for a little while without any problems!
The headline pretty much says it all: here’s a Lexus NX – the company’s small crossover – fitted with wheels and “tires” made of glowing ice.
The tires were developed in London by a four-man team comprised of ice sculpting professionals from a 35 year old business whose speciality is creating complex and very big snow and ice installations – Hamilton Ice Sculptors. The entire process involved hand-crafting, using Japanese steel chisels and shaping tools. Now in terms of how they performed, we suppose it doesn’t really take a scientist to figure out that wheels made out of ice probably doesn’t have the best traction.
“Being a sculptor, it’s about having a good silhouette, bold detail”, explained Jack Hackney, one of the sculptors who worked on the project, in a behind-the-scenes video released by Lexus.
Day-to-day usability is another matter.©LexusLONDON, Dec 21 – For many drivers, a car’s wheels are its coolest feature, but the unique rims on this Lexus NX take things to another level.
Lexus continues to offer up creative pieces, from a cardboard vehicle to a hoverboard. I can fathom what took so long to cut wheels from ice.
“Creating Amazing is what Lexus is about”, said Richard Balshaw, Lexus Director.
If that doesn’t make you shout incredible, I don’t know what.
Another visually stunning Lexus-made marketing stunt brought Back to the Future fans in tears.
