Seattle Seahawks Getting Bryce Brown Back
Wilson was 4 for 4 for 34 yards on the drive and Thomas Rawls, the rookie who has done an impressive job in place of an injured Marshawn Lynch, had six carries for 44 yards.
The Seattle Seahawks suffered a crushing blow this Sunday during their game with the Baltimore Ravens when they lost their primary backup running back Thomas Rawls to a broken ankle along with several torn ligaments.
“He’s going to be continuing to rehab, and he’s going to be rehabbing off-site until he’s ready to get back and start practicing”, coach Pete Carroll said.
“He just exemplifies what we’re all about-toughness, hard-nosed, committed, grit and all that stuff”. Lynch has 417 yards on 111 carries in seven games this season with three touchdowns. Rawls is out for the season with an ankle injury, leaving Harris and Fred Jackson to carry the workload for the time being.
The Seahawks on Tuesday also released wide receiver B.J. Daniels, safety Akeem Davis and running back DuJuan Harris. Fullback Derrick Coleman could also be used in a backup role.
“Being on the road, it’s going to be real important, obviously”, Carroll said. “He looked pretty good the other day”.
Way back in early November, NFL Media’s Conor Orr declared that Seattle would storm back in the NFC to finish with double-digit wins and coast into the playoffs easily.
Brown stands to get the majority of carries Sunday for the Seahawks (8-5) against Cleveland (3-10) and until Lynch returns from abdominal surgery – whenever that may be. Would it work? Fascinating questions both, but ones that we will likely never get the answers to. “He’s got to get past that, whatever impact that has had and then he’s got to get back into football shape and get going”, Carroll said.
Seattle must assess whether the initial distraction of signing the embattled running back would be worth the insurance policy as the team looks to make another Super Bowl run.
Lucky for the Seahawks that Russell Wilson has really being playing well lately but losing Rawls for the season will be a blow.
Even with all the injuries the team is dealing with, Carroll said the team has every reason to be optimistic.
In all likelihood the team will stay the course and wait for Lynch to return to health.
Wilson hit Baldwin again for a 16-yard touchdown after an interception by Richard Sherman that provided a 35-6 lead and sent the Baltimore fans headed to exits with nine minutes left. Most of the touchdowns just came on Wilson having time to sit in the pocket and wait for someone to get free rather than the coverage just being bad outright, though that happened a bit as well.
Wilson showed once again that he can win on the road and is not rattled by fumbles from his running backs or dropped passes by his receivers.
-PASSING OFFENSE: C. Quarterback Jimmy Clausen played well in his first start for Baltimore. The Kansas State University alumnus delivered 1,004 rushing yards and six touchdowns in all his three years in the league.
