Very Small Chance of White Christmas in Sheboygan County
“Definitely in the past, what we’ve seen from El Niño has hinted that we would have a warmer than normal December”.
But those dreams might not come true this year.
Growing up in western Washington, I can count on one hand the number of times we had snow on Christmas.
This year were set to see something even more rare than a white Christmas – a full moon.
“I’m cold-natured. I like the warmer. I’d keep the lawn mowers handy over the snow shovels”.
Temperatures peaked at 17C on Saturday – one of the warmest December days on record.
Meteorologist Brian Smith in the NWS Little Rock office said a warm front will likely move north across the state Christmas Day, bringing a 50 percent chance of rain to the south. North and northwest areas of the state have only a slight chance of rain, with Smith saying the risk of severe weather will be low statewide, but will increase over the weekend. “But apart from rain in some areas, Christmas Day should be warm but uneventful weather-wise”.
The deepest snow on Christmas in the Twin Cities was 20 inches in 1983, which had a high temperature of 1 degree, the state climatology group said.
Phillips said winter-like weather has essentially been “missing in action” in the lead-up to Christmas. Carl Bratten of Marion has learned to love the warmer weather. “Well, pretty much El Nino happened”. Wales has seen an average temperature of 8.7 degrees Celsius, while southern England’s digits have hovered around the spring-like 10 degrees Celsius, several degrees above normal for this time of year.
But from northern Ontario to British Columbia, it’s a different story, he said.
The other possibility for a white Christmas would be if at least a trace of snow was already on the ground.
These mild temperatures have not been good for skiing conditions in the Alps, with many areas not seeing any fresh snow falling in the last week or so. The base was up to 109 inches at Heather Meadows and 151 inches at Pan Dome as of Monday morning.
