Steve Harvey Crowns Wrong Miss Universe
Still can’t get over the insane blooper at yesterday’s Miss Universe 2015 pageant night and the fantastic win of Pia Wurtzbach?
Not only did Harvey announce the wrong victor, but he misspelled the names of BOTH of their countries in his initial apology tweet (which he has since deleted).
Harvey explained later that he misread his cue card and saw that Miss Colombia had won “First runner-up”, and mistakenly thought Ariadna Gutierrez was the victor, when in fact Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach, had won the competition.
After the show, Miss Philippines and Miss Columbia shared their reactions following Steve Harvey’s big live television mistake. “Majority went over to Miss Colombia, because they knew her heart was breaking”. “The truth is we’re a little shocked”. Congratulations @gutierrezary miss universe 2016!!!!
“Everything happens for a reason, so I’m happy”, a teary Gutierrez said backstage, surrounded by a group of fellow contestants who embraced her and yelled “We love you, Colombia!” Then she walked out to the front of the stage and waited for Gutierrez to hand over the crown.
“I really couldn’t believe it, I was so upset”, Riek said.
Other beauty pageant insiders said another possible solution could have been crowning co-winners.
It’s the third time a contestant from the Philippines has won the title.
Ariadna remained poised and professional as she had the crown removed from her head and given to Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines, and she later tried to remain positive about the huge embarrassment.
Watch the most awkward moment in pageant history as Miss Colombia is forced to relinquish her crown to the REAL victor (below)!
Some journalists blamed Donald Trump, saying they could find no financial record confirming that he had indeed sold the rights to the pageant as he said he did in September.
