Trump beats Republicans, not Clinton, in one-on-one matchups
“The strategists I talk to say the candidates with the biggest choices are Marco Rubio: How hard does he compete in Iowa?” One of his talking points on the campaign trail is his belief that Republicans have a better chance at winning by running a very conservative candidate rather than someone who strikes a more moderate tone, like past candidates Mitt Romney and John McCain.
“The difference between Marco Rubio and I is I show up for work”, Paul said.
Cruz’s record on immigration has been under attack in recent days after rival candidate Marco Rubio criticized him for offering an amendment during debate over the Gang of Eight immigration bill that would have granted legal status, but remove the possibility of citizenship, to individuals in the country illegally. Meantime, on several key issues, Cruz has taken pains to preserve as much wiggle room as possible, suggesting that he is already strategizing about next November’s general election.
“There’s a heavy evangelical base down there and they think his focus on those states sets him apart”, said Mattingly.
The Times described Cruz as having been an architect of Bush’s immigration platform, but other former aides downplay his role as that of a “junior staffer”. “I find it odd that it’s gotten any legs to it”.
“We will have a president willing to say radical Islamic terrorism”, Cruz said.
“The race is turning into a three man contest – Trump (outsider lane), Cruz (conservative lane), Rubio (establishment lane) with [New Jersey Gov. Chris] Christie trying to dislodge Rubio in the establishment lane with a win” in New Hampshire, a former senior adviser to 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney told Business Insider last week. “He was not in the Senate, and so I imagine he was somewhere or doing something else other than standing up against the Washington cartel here in the Senate”.
“For anyone who wonders, can we really secure the border, I’ve got three words for you: Secretary”.
“Let me tell you, I was there”, Sessions said.
“He sounds like he’s an Obama administration spokesman”, Continetti said in response, explaining how Trump and the president use similar rhetoric to describe America’s relationship with Russian Federation. “Dr. Dobson’s wisdom and common sense have inspired health and healing in millions of lives”. Cruz pushed to dissolve the U.S. Department of Education and the IRS. Some stood in line for almost four hours before the rally began. “You supported this amendment, you pushed it – yes, that’s the first thing”, she said.
But both women are undecided on whom they will support. He heads to Trussville on Sunday for his next campaign stop.
So right now, Rubio is defensively answering all kinds of questions about why he’s so soft on immigrants, while Cruz is the one attacking (and Rubio’s counter that Cruz is kind of an amnesty supporter too has fallen short).
