Cosby lawyers want Pittsburgh-area defamation suit dismissed
Bill Cosby is suing Beverly Johnson, one of the women he allegedly attempted to assault, for defamation.
According to E! who obtained court documents, Cosby’s representative said that Johnson’s claims, “are entirely fabricated and nothing more than an opportunistic attempt to resuscitate her own career and benefit herself financially from the wave of media attention surrounding her false allegations against Crosby”. In the lawsuit, Cosby is asking for compensatory and punitive damages, a permanent injunction against Johnson preventing her from making further statements about him and an injunction requiring Johnson to publicly apologize and correct her statements.
Comedian Bill Cosby has continued his pursuit of legal action against his accusers on Monday (Dec. 21) by filing a lawsuit against model Beverly Johnson.
She alleges the incident happened after she agreed to pick up some ribs for his dinner and deliver it to his room, where Cosby is said to have greeted her wearing a bathrobe before attacking her. Last week, he sued seven of his accusers for defamation; he is seeking public retractions from each of them. He has not been charged with a crime. I ask on your support of all the victims involved. “I chalked it up to another powerful person in Hollywood who just felt he could take what he wanted from women”.
The lawsuit against Johnson, 63, is the latest legal salvo from Cosby, who is a defendant in five civil cases filed in Los Angeles, Massachusetts and Pittsburgh.
The lawsuit also seeks the removal of the chapter on Cosby from future distribution of Johnson’s memoir and demands that unsold copies of the memoir with the chapter on Cosby be removed from circulation. Last week he filed a suit against seven other women.
She later gave interviews to news programs including ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “Nightline” reiterating her claims. Oh, and they ruined Cosby’s chance to revive his aging career on NBC.
The women made “malicious, opportunistic, and false and defamatory accusations of sexual misconduct”, according to Cosby’s lawyer Monique Pressley as reported by CNN.
