David: Cloudy, rainy start to your work week
Are you dreaming of a white, hot Christmas Eve? The result will be a widespread moderate rain Tuesday morning. Only a few showers are expected late; the better chance comes on Monday.
Cloudy skies with showers and a few t-storms possible during the afternoon.
Temperatures all this week will be at least 10 to 15 degrees above normal, with Wednesday’s high of 60 pushing 25 degrees above normal! “Warm as a lovely spring day”, is the phrase CityLab is using to describe Christmas for much of the eastern USA, with “incredible” highs of 67 and 70 predicted on Christmas Eve in Washington DC and Atlanta respectively. Highs Wednesday and Thursday will be in the low 70s with lows in the low 60s.
Tuesday night into Wednesday is when our next rain event will arrive bringing another dose of heavy downpours. South southeast wind 8 to 13 miles per hour. As it does so, the southwest winds ahead of the low will pick up a bundle of atmospheric energy and move it across Central New York. Highs will top out in the low 70s.
Monday night – Showers likely, mainly before 2 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 40. The likelihood of precipitation increases to 60 percent by midnight. At night, skies start to clear a little as temperatures drop to around 50.
Tonight, skies will become mostly to partly cloudy with overnight lows dropping around the freezing mark. Expect highs to fall to the 40s and 50s. If we reach 80 on Christmas Day here in Lafayette, that would break a record.
The weekend looks good despite the increasing clouds and the chance for some showers Sunday afternoon and evening. Up to three quarters of an inch of rain is possible, and the high will be near 58.
