‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ box office collections: Harrison Ford makes $34
Other notable Monday figures include 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with $26.8 million and earlier this year Jurassic World scooped up $25.3 million. This excludes any grosses from China, where the film opens 9 January, as well as Greece and India, where it opens this week.
So all in all, Star Wars did as well as expected when it came to domestic markets, including Australia where it also broke box office records.
It is Jurassic World that now holds the record as the quickest film to reach that milestone – will Star Wars: The Force Awakens do it in less than thirteen days?
But it’s not surprising the rivalry is so friendly: Jurassic World’s Frank is actually married to Kathleen Kennedy, president of Disney’s Lucasfilm.
“‘Star Wars” is officially the biggest thing to happen in the known box office universe now that it has taken the best debuts records-domestic and worldwide-from “Jurassic World'”, said Jeff Bock, box office analyst at Exhibitor Relations.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” box office collections: The 73-year-old Harrison Ford, who is also allegedly set to receive 0.5 per cent of the film’s gross earnings, is making almost 76 times more than the newcomers Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, who were both paid 623,000 dollars each, News.com.au reported.
Episode VII picks up the intergalactic story of good versus evil 30 years on from The Return Of The Jedi, the last episode of the original trilogy.
Jurassic World has congratulated Star Wars: The Force Awakens for its huge box office success.
“Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip” debuted in second place with $14.3 million, while the Tina Fey-Amy Poehler comedy “Sisters” opened in third place with $14 million.
