Phil Jones: Man United Still Not as Bad as Under David Moyes
Louis van Gaal has ONE game to save his job, with the under-fire Manchester United boss on the brink.
That result leaves United in the midst of a six match winless run, out of the Champions League and now outside the top four.
Saturday’s shock 2-1 defeat to Norwich at Old Trafford has left the Dutchman fighting for survival.
A poll on respected fans website Red Issue showed United supporters are overwhelmingly in favour of the 64-year-old being sacked immediately.
“It’s not even questionable in the dressing room [that the manager has the players’ backing]. The players have to do it on the pitch and the chemistry between the players, the managers and his staff is very important”. The last straw of course was the knock out from Champions League and since then talks of Van Gaal going out have escalated all the more. Midfielder Juan Mata, a favourite of Van Gaal, said that the team remained confident that they could change the mood around the club.
Pep Guardiola, now in charge of Van Gaal’s old club Bayern Munich, will also become available in the summer after announcing he is leaving the German giants.
United playmaker Juan Mata, meanwhile, insists he and his team-mates can arrest their slump over the next week when they face Stoke and Chelsea.
Although Guardiola is still favourite to join Manchester City, his availability – along with Mourinho’s – has handed United two big-name options and means Van Gaal can not afford another slip up.
“We might be playing well, or playing well in patches, or not scoring or whatever it may be, but we need to stick together and us as players need to take responsibility for that. I think that is part of the process and journey on Ryan Giggs’ career path”. “But that is what I believe and maybe in this matter that is not so interesting”.
“We’ve got to pull through and we will. Only ourselves can turn it around”, he continued.
Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville believes the club would be wrong to replace manager Louis van Gaal.
The Dutchman is under rising pressure to improve United’s performances and results and was booed off by the Old Trafford faithful following the Norwich defeat.
