A Border Security Force (BSF) plane on Tuesday morning crashed at Bagdola village in Sector 8, Dwarka in the national capital.
Witnesses said the plane burst into flames after hitting the wall and then crashed into a water body.
One body has been recovered so far and the status of the other people aboard the plane is unclear, Sharma said.
All on board, including three BSF officers and seven technicians, were killed. “Investigation will be done to find the cause of the accident”. An inquiry has been ordered by the Civil Aviation Ministry.
The plane, a 20-year-old beechcraft, took off for Ranchi at around 9.45 am. Thick smoke rose from the debris.
“We saw the plane spiralling and crashing down near the wall where some labourers were working”.
The DG-level talks between India and Bangladesh scheduled on Tuesday in Dhaka were cancelled in the wake of the crash, they said.
“We escaped a much bigger tragedy. So, many more lives could have been in jeopardy, had it not been for the pilot’s presence of mind”, she said.
A total of 18 fire tenders are at the spot.
In May 2011, 10 people died after a small medical ambulance aircraft crashed in Faridabad town near Delhi.
