Steve Harvey’s Gigantic Miss Universe Mistake
During the pageant on Sunday evening, host Steve Harvey announced that Colombia’s Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo won.
Here’s what Steve Harvey had to say on Twitter: “I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippines and Miss Colombia”.
An embarrassing mix-up at the Miss Universe pageant on Sunday evening is now fodder for presidential campaigns. Sometimes a person messes up, says the wrong thing – and no one understands that defense better than Trump.
In an apology tweet to both contestants, Harvey wrote “Columbia” instead of “Colombia” and “Philippians” instead of “Miss Philippines”. “This is what Pia showed in the middle of the confusion and controversy that marked her coronation as the new Miss Universe”.
He apologized, said that Gutierrez was in fact the first runner-up and named the victor as Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. “We girls first ran to Colombia to console her so she didn’t have that congratulatory work that the Miss Universe normally [gets]”, the 25-year-old Australian beauty said.
“Folks I have to apologise…”, he said on live TV.
Stunned, she walked to the front of the stage, where the coveted crown was taken off the head of Miss Colombia and put on hers.
The newly-crowned Miss Universe admitted in an interview that she wanted to comfort to comfort Ariadna.
Miss Germany refuses to elaborate, but she does add that she wishes Miss Philippines the best while holding the title.
“I didn’t actually have anything prepared because I didn’t know I was going to win a Slammy today”, she told the crowd.
“Everything happens for a reason, so I’m happy”, she said. I think I’d make ’em a co-winner.
Some believe that Donald Trump is still part owner of the organization and did it as payback to humiliate Colombians after Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega lashed out at him for his anti-immigration remarks.
