Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says Danny Welbeck no nearer to return
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Danny Welbeck’s injury problems are ongoing and that the forward won’t be returning to action in January as planned.
Despite admitting the time out has been frustrating, the 25-year-old is in a positive mood as he looks for a return as early as possible.
Welbeck, who joined Arsenal from Manchester United on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2014 for £16m – fee reported by The Guardian – has not played since April because of knee surgery.
So when Henry uses his column in The Sun to talk about which positions the Arsenal boss will be looking to strengthen next month, I get the feeling that our record goal scorer has a much better chance of being right than your average football reporter.
“I’ve said the new year, January or February, but there’s no exact date yet, I’ve just got to make sure I’m 100% when I come back. I think the most important thing to me is to get back and show what I can do for Arsenal”.
Last term Arsenal may not have overcome Manchester City in Monday night’s conditions but each and every player played a part in the north London club’s potentially title-defining victory last night. City have been in a rocky run of form of late, especially their humiliation at Stoke, but the quality seems to always carry the Sky Blues through in the big games.
So it looks as though we’re just going to have to wait and see how Danny’s recover progresses in the New Year but it would be disappointing if he isn’t on the pitch until February.
“Obviously there’s quite a few boys out with injuries, but I think as we get a full squad it’s going to give us a good push to the end of the season”.
