Simon Cowell ‘regrets’ X Factor winner’s single song choice after disastrous sales
Compared to former X Factor winners, Louisa, 17, has definitely not got off to the best start.
X Factor champ Louisa Johnson put aside the disappointment of sales of her first single falling flatter than a bottle of cheap cava to sparkle in a performance over the weekend.
We can only imagine how it would have fared if Reggie “n” Bollie had won.
The track, which is a cover of a Bob Dylan classic, has little chance of scoring the Christmas number one spot, with combined sales of around 39,000 copies in its first week, although it has made it into the UK Top Ten.
It’s an embarrassing result for Syco (Cowell’s record label).
‘On reflection, they feel picking a more up-tempo, anthemic song would have been a better idea’.
Well the chart battle isn’t over yet… “But they are fully behind Louisa and insist the poor chart position was down to the song, not the performer”.
It’s looking highly unlikely, unless there is some sort of Christmas miracle, and it’s not beyond the realms of possibility, that Louisa Johnson will take the Christmas Number 1 crown this Friday.
With the song having also fallen to Number 19 in the iTunes download charts it means it’s all but officially confirmed that Louis won’t be getting this year’s Christmas number one. On Sunday, the NHS Choir was 2,000 copies ahead of Justin, but when the official chart was locked down yesterday, Bieber was ever so slightly ahead.
