Jurgen Klopp Admits Not Selecting Benteke Was ‘Maybe Not the Best Decision’
Benteke was strongly linked with the Blues in the summer before eventually joining Liverpool from Aston Villa in a deal worth £32.5million.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he may have made a mistake in leaving Christian Benteke on the bench for the weekend’s defeat to Watford, according to Football365. “If you lose the games everyone is allowed to ask why this player didn’t play, when they wouldn’t after you win”, said Klopp, when quizzed on why Benteke was on the bench.
Klopp is unlikely to be open to parting ways with Benteke, as the Belgian’s departure would leave the German with Divock Origi as his only fit centre-forward as a result of Daniel Sturridge’s ongoing injury problems.
“If there is the same probability in that (story) as all the other transfer rumours since I have been here, then I am pretty cool”, Klopp said in his post-match press conference. “All I’ve read until now was 0% and I haven’t heard about this”.
“I’m not sure anybody at Aston Villa saw the best Christian Benteke, so we have to work on it. He’s young enough to develop and that’s what we do”.
Benteke has five goals in all competitions this season for Liverpool, but the side has largely looked more fluid in attack without him.
