SpaceX lands rocket back on Earth
SpaceX has completed 20 successful trips since 2006, but launches have been on hiatus since that accident.
The landing marks the first time SpaceX has attempted to vertically park a Falcon 9 rocket stage back on solid ground after flying a payload to orbit.
The mission delivered a constellation of 11 communication satellites into orbit and signals the start of cheaper space travel. But Musk said the one launched Monday won’t fly again.
The Falcon 9 rocket reached a height of 125 miles before heading back to earth and touching down at a former US Air Force rocket and missile testing range that was last used in 1978. Spacex has suffered a spate of losses. Bezos who also owns Amazon, tweeted out his congratulations to the Space X team, a few minutes after Falcon 9 landed.
The latest model of the spaceship namely Falcon 9 v1. Since then, the rocket was upgraded and made more powerful.
A live webcast by SpaceX showed people watching the launch broke into laud cheers and applause as the white portion of the rocket touched down in the darkness 10 minutes after lift-off.
SpaceX is run by Elon Musk – the billionaire founder of Tesla electric cars.
He later told journalists “No one has ever brought a booster, an orbital-class booster, back intact”.
This time, however, Musk did not immediately respond to Bezos’ barb.
On the other hand USA space agency NASA also to Twitter to congratulate the Musk company. The latest version of the rocket, informally named Falcon 9 v1.1, as reported by The Verge, has an updated engine to provide more thrust. The explosion six months ago was a setback that caused SpaceX to delay some of its routine missions like flying supplies to the International Space Station.
