Accept judiciary’s decision with humility: Salman Khan
Salman Khan, one of Bollywood’s biggest stars with Rs. 200 crore riding on him, was in court when the judge announced that he had been acquitted and asked the police to return his passport.
The Bombay High Court threw out an earlier conviction and five-year sentence given the 49-year-old actor. One person was killed and four others were injured.
The Bombay High Court has acquitted Bollywood star Salman Khan of all charges in a long-running hit and run case.
In March, the actor had told the court that he had not been driving the auto and denied consuming alcohol before the accident.
Also, Justice Joshi, the judge in this case said that the summoning of Kamal Khan and recording his statement was not needed.
In May 2015, a Sessions Court had convicted the actor for five years with the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The High Court said he can’t be found guilty based on the evidence presented, local media reported Thursday.
Salman who is busy shooting for his upcoming movie “Sultan” appeared in the court on Thursday with sister Alvira, before justice A R Joshi, who concluded and adjudicated on the retrial.
Hearing this, Khan lowered his head, sighed, and then looked up again at the judge from the witness box. As far as the deposition of Ashok Singh, the family driver of Salim Khan, is concerned, it was as per rules and laid down procedures of criminal law, the court said. The High Court also observed that appreciation of evidence by trial court is not proper according to principles of jurisprudence. “Ravindra Patil can not be considered as a wholly reliable witness”. This comes as a huge relief to the actor who has been facing trail on this case for the past 13 years.
Maharashtra government had approached the Supreme Court which set aside the order of both sessions court and the HC.
