The Salvation Army uses the donations to the Red Kettles for services to the Altus area, capped off by its Christmas assistance program.
“We’ve got a long way to go and only a short time to do it in”, Capt. Whitney said.
A man walked into a Salvation Army office in Boise on Monday and donated $3,000 in cash. “We look forward to seeing how (the Hattiesburg community) will pull together and benefit the Army”.
The New River Valley Salvation Army, which covers Pulaski and Montgomery counties, needs help to overcome a deficit in fundraising this holiday season.
The Salvation Army has received at least 11 different types of jewelry this season, with the first donation being a diamond engagement ring and a wedding band left at a kettle near the Market Basket in Billerica on November 30.
“Our donors have been very faithful to us for many years, and I’m confident they’ll come through again when word gets out that the kettle contributions are trailing behind last year”.
“I thought it was like the mailmen who deliver no matter the weather”, he said”. “We’re able to help people with their rent, utilities groceries-making sure that they are staying in their homes, staying warm, and being able to provide for themselves”, Riggs says.
The program pays for meals, toys, and other holiday items for hundreds of thousands of people. “There are so many people who need help”. However, the amount of donations compared to previous year is lower.
According to Major James Allison, with the Salvation Army of Greater Winston-Salem, the employees and volunteers plan to help 100 families an hour!
