Miss Australia: We knew Pia Wurtzbach is Miss Universe
“Am I really Miss Universe?'” she said. She said: “It’s a very non-traditional crowning moment, isn’t it?”
Eventual victor Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach told reporters afterwards: “I’m very sorry, I did not take the crown away from her and I wish her well in whatever she wants to pursue after this pageant”.
Olivia Jordan, from the US western state of Oklahoma, was the second runner-up.
Wurtzbach reacts after she is called back to the stage so that she could be crowned Miss Universe.
The Miss Universe pageant was marred by a horrendous mix-up which saw host Steve Harvey announce the wrong victor before then handing the prize to Wurtzbach.
The pageant host, USA comedian Steve Harvey, announced that Miss Colombia Adriana Gutierrez won the coveted crown but moments later corrected his mistake, giving the title to Miss Philippines, Xinhua reported.
Harvey was not almost as smooth about the whole ordeal – he wrote a tweet to once again apologize for his mistake, and ended up publishing possibly the most unfortunately misspelled tweet of 2015.
Former Miss California Toay Foster Ortiz said either Harvey made an honest mistake or the whole thing was part of a larger plan.
A mystified Wurtzbach appeared stunned as she walked to the front of the stage alongside the crown-wearing Arevalo before last year’s Miss Universe from Colombia removed the crown and placed it on Wurtzbach’s head instead.
Harvey: “Ok folks, I have to apologise, the first runner-up is Miss Colombia. I’m so happy, thank you for voting for me!”
The top three contestants included beauties from the Philippines, Colombia and the U.S., who beat others in rounds like national costume, swimsuit and evening wear. I know how much pride many countries, fans and most importantly, the contestants take in preparing for this night.
