National Herald case: Unconditional bail to Sonia, Rahul
Earlier, former prime minister Manmohan Singh came to the court accompanied by a number of Congress leaders including Ghulam Nabu Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge, Shiela Dikshit and Ashwini Kumar.
They termed it as a political vendetta.
Sonia’s son-in-law Robert Vadra also took to social media to support her and his brother-in-law Rahul. The court accepted it and asked all the accused except Sam Pitroda, who could not turn up as he is ill and undergoing treatment in the United States, to furnish a bail bond of Rs 50,000 each and one surety each. He said later that he had not opposed the bail but had told the court that conditions should be imposed on the Gandhis travel overseas since they “were in the habit of running away from the country”. The next court date is set for February 20, 2016. They had to navigate through jostling lawyers, journalists, security men and party workers to reach their cars.
Expressing solidarity with All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi after being summoned by Court in National Herald case, Congress workers and supporters today staged a sit-in in Kargil. “In the short term, they are going through a bad phase and they are losing the battle of perception”, said Rashid Kidwai, journalist and author of books on the Congress party. They were granted bail. “What happened now”, he told reporters. Rahul Gandhi, who was with her, waved to the crowd gathered to have a glimpse of them. “The point of vendetta was made before and the court has rejected it”, he said.
Congress leaders burnt an effigy of the BJP in front of Telugu Thalli statue in Kurnool on Saturday, after staging a rally from the DCC office, accusing the ruling party leaders of being vindictive towards the Congress top brass.
Chief Minister O lbobi stated that many more surprises are in store as long as BJP is in power. I am an old Jan Sanghi and started my career in Jan Sangh.
It was Rahul who took the attack to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His plea seeking exemption from personal appearance was allowed. Subsequent to the case filed by Swamy, it is highly likely that the game-plan of the Gandhis to effectively acquire the assets of the Associated Journals Limited, and to do with them whatever they pleased, has been effectively scuppered.
They initially attempted to avoid appearing in person in court, instead sending their lawyers, but were ordered to attend by the Delhi High Court, which said the Congress leaders’ action “smacks of criminality”. They were ordered to do so by the Delhi high court last week. “So tomorrow if they will not disappear then my work is done”, Swamy added.
The Nehru-Gandhi family and the Congress party that they dominate has ruled India for all but 10 years since the country gained independence from British rule in 1947.
“Whether it is cheating, criminal misappropriation or criminal breach of trust is not required to be spelt out at this nascent stage”.
Truth will prevail in the ongoing case too.
