Donald Trump: Make Miss Universe contestants ‘co-winners’ after Steve Harvey’s

United States comedian Steve Harvey found himself at the centre of a controversial storm on Sunday (Dec 20) when he announced the wrong victor while hosting the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas.

Steve Harvey took the blame for perhaps the most epic beauty pageant host blunder of all time on Sunday night’s Miss Universe 2015 Pageant, but some are pointing to a backstage Snapchat video as proof the mistake may have been someone else’s.

Host Steve Harvey incorrectly announced that Miss Colombia had won the 64th edition of the contest, broadcast live on the Fox television network.

In an interview posted on Monday, December 21 on the Facebook page of the pageant website Missosology, Sarah-Lorraine said that she couldn’t believe the turn of events, and that she felt that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was robbed of the crown. “I was going to go to her – I was actually very close to her already, but then I decided that maybe it was bad timing to do it now, to apologise to her for what happened, so maybe I’ll do that in the future”.

It was a cringe-worthy moment for most as Steve Harvey announced he had named the wrong contestant the victor of the Miss Universe Pageant, but it was especially hard to watch for former Miss Texas Tara Watson-Watkins.

“Secondly, I’d like to apologize to the viewers that I disappointed as well”. “To give it to her for a couple of minutes and then take it away…” “This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am regretful.”. He shared that he feels “horrible” towards the fans and for the countries of the two contestants. “Frightful mistake, but I can show it to you right here”, he said, holding up the card.

Wurtzbach is the third Filipina to be crowned Miss Universe, ending a 42-year drought for the country.

Not everyone is happy about the Philippines’ Pia Wurtzbach’s Miss Universe win. “We feel very badly, but it’s still a great night”.

Mark Shapiro of the pageant’s new owner, WME ‘ IMG, says Harvey corrected the mistake on his own when he realized the error on air. She says in the heat of the moment there is a lot of pressure.

It’s no secret the Miss Universe franchise has faced drama this year, when GOP presidential contender Donald Trump sold the pageant to WME/IMG.
