NWA joins quartet of 1970s hit-makers in rock hall

The influential disco-era band Chic is becoming the Susan Lucci of music, failing to win induction in its 10th year as a nominee.

It’s been a long, tumultuous road for the West Coast rap group N.W.A.

This rap group from Compton started the careers of Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. “I think the movie helped to get people to remember that”, he continued. The fan pick for this round was Chicago.

The 2016 induction ceremony will be held in NY on April 8. HBO will film the event, so you too can watch all the honorary glory take place.

On the subject of the other inductees joining him this year, he praised Cheap Trick’s induction but mentioned that he would love to soon see The Spinners be nominated, as one of his “all-time favorite live groups”.

The group’s biopic, Straight Outta Compton, made history as the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time, and now, the group is being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, reports Rolling Stone.

As usual, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced an eclectic list of inductees for 2016.

Tickets for the show go on sale to the public in February.

Miller, Cheap Trick and Chicago all won the first year they were nominated. Artists are eligible for nomination 25 years after their first release. The upcoming project is part of a new deal the group has signed with music mogul Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Label Group, the same company Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has partnered with for his forthcoming solo album.

A statement from the organisers said: “Deep Purple’s non-inclusion in the Hall is a gaping hole which must now be filled”, calling them “the Holy Trinity of hard rock and metal bands” along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath who are already inductees. Personally, I think they would be better off inducting us individually.

“N.W.A.’s improbable rise from marginalized outsiders to the most controversial and complicated voices of their generation remains one of rock’s most explosive, relevant and challenging tales”, the Hall of Fame said in its announcement.
