NYPD detective among 6 American troops killed in Afghanistan
“We express our deepest condolences to the families of the six USA service members killed and to all of those injured in today’s Taliban attack near Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan”, the White House said in a statement.
One of the victims of a suicide bombing in Afghanistan was a NY police detective.
Not long after the us military repealed its “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, Air Force Major Adrianna Vorderbruggen married her longtime partner, becoming one of the first American service members to be Wednesday in a same-sex ceremony.
As a member of the NYPD, Lemm was deployed three times, twice to Afghanistan and once to Iraq. “On behalf of General Campbell and all of Resolute Support, our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families and friends of those affected in this tragic incident, especially during this holiday season”. She says he leaves behind his pregnant wife and a 3-year-old daughter.
The attack was the largest loss of life this year for the U.S.-lead coalition in Afghanistan.
Secretary of Defence Ash Carter in statement called the attack “a painful reminder of the dangers our troops face every day in Afghanistan”.
According to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, the operation was launched in January “to provide further training, advice and assistance for the Afghan security forces and institutions”.
While more than 2,300 US troops have died in the war there since 2001, statistics kept by the Department of Defense suggest there have only been 10 so-called “hostile deaths” of American servicemembers during 2015. In addition to those killed, one Afghan soldier and one American soldier were wounded.
It was the deadliest attack on foreign troops in four months.
Earlier that month, Kabul was again the scene of three insurgent attacks which left at least 35 people dead.
