Raiders’ Charles Woodson to retire
Quarterback Derek Carr, receiver Amari Cooper and running back Latavius Murray were named as alternates for the annual game, scheduled to be played at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii, on January 31, 2016. The next year he was an AP First Team All American. Mack should be in the conversation to be the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.
“So many of [my] teammates throughout this year have talked to me about next year”.
Beckham was whistled for a hat trick of unnecessary roughness calls in the loss to the undefeated Panthers, one of which saw him race across the field to deliver a helmet-to-helmet hit upon Carolina cornerback Josh Norman on a play in which neither was closely involved.
Despite battling a diminishing role, Reece will represent the Raiders for the fourth time.
Clearly, with Woodson’s age and Oakland trying to rebuild their team it is the right move for both sides to part ways peacefully.
From the 1998 class, Woodson will have outlasted every non-QB by at least two years. He hurt his left knee in the 2013 season. He has 62 tackles, two forced fumbles and is one sack away from the Raiders’ single-season franchise record. The 18-year veteran has certainly had a Hall of Fame career. The Raiders haven’t had this many position players since sending five in 2002. It his 9th career Pro Bowl nod.
On December 21, 2015 Oakland Raiders S, Charles Woodson announced he will be retiring from football following the completion of the 2015 season. Which was way, way, way down.
“Coming back here and playing for the second time we were able to rekindle something that we had years ago”, Woodson said. There he was in 2008, at the age of 32, with players like Townsend, Surtain, and Rolle on the way out, and Woodson had still not revealed the best that he had to offer.
For Charles Woodson, the last three seasons he’s spent with the Oakland Raiders must have been a waking nightmare. With the Packers, he would go on to win a Super Bowl. Woodson switched to safety in 2012 (without hesitation or whining) but broke his collarbone after seven games.
Just as interesting is how much he grew to like it in Green Bay. How foolish we were to doubt him once again.
It would take signing with Oakland as a free agent, a scenario that gained traction Monday night when Raiders safety Charles Woodson, 39, announced his retirement. This is his ninth Pro Bowl and fifth as a Raider.
This season, he’s allowed just one touchdown – and that came Week 1 while with Washington.
And well, he’s old.
“It would mean something”, Woodson said. Which is fitting isn’t it?
Woodson could definitely compete at a high level next year and possibly beyond, but the heart wants what the heart wants. They love this team.
