After announcing the wrong contestant as the victor of Miss Universe 2015, and then incorrectly spelling the names of Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines in an apologetic tweet, Steve Harvey has been invited back to host next year’s pageant.
Mystified Wurtzbach appeared stunned as she walked to the front of the stage alongside the crown-wearing Arevalo – still not sure how to react. “I’m honored that I got to stand beside them and devastated for each of them – Pia Wurtzbach, that her moment was tainted by controversy, and most of all for Ariadna Gutierrez, having her dream ripped away from her in an instant”. It was on the card. Let’s just hope this part of the gift isn’t lost among us and will last through the year-long reign of our new Miss Universe – and beyond.
And sadly the crowning moment was marred and the program abruptly ended. Steve took to Twitter.com after the Las Vegas contest & issued another public apology, writing, “I might wish to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake”. He made an honest mistake that he has owned up to and apologized for. “It could happen to the best of us”, said Shapiro. Unfortunately, a live telecast means that human error can come into play.
So, while Miss Philippines’ historic 3rd Miss Universe title is a ideal Christmas gift to all Filipinos, lessons learned leading up to her win is certainly a valuable present as well.
