British Muslim family barred from plane
Ms Creasy said she had tried to find out why the family – who were allegedly offered no explanation – were declined access to the flight, but had “hit a brick wall”.
Mahmood Tariq Mahmood, who was traveling with his brother & his brother’s kids to visit family in southern Calif., told The Guardian newspaper he believes his family was denied entry to the us ’cause they’re Muslim.
Their experience has drawn wider attention over a rising number of British Muslims being barred from the United States without reason.
In a piece for the Guardian, Creasy wrote: ‘If the embassy won’t answer to the family’s MP, it should answer to their prime minister and he to us about what he is doing to ensure that no British citizen is being discriminated against for their faith on our shores’.
Creasy told the prime minister there is “growing fear” among British Muslims that aspects of Trump’s plans are coming into practice even though they have been widely condemned.
Mahmood told reporters his family had been approached by USA government officials at London’s Gatwick Airport and told they could not board their Norwegian Airlines flight.
None of the family members, who had never been in trouble with police, were escorted out by the airport security personnel after they were obliged to give back every item they had purchased from the airport’s duty-free shops.
A Downing Street spokesperson said Cameron will investigate the lawmaker’s claim and will “respond in due course”. I work here, I have a business here.
The alleged incident comes just weeks after Donald Trump, Republican candidate for the USA presidential election, said Muslims should be banned from America. “But we were alienated”, Mr Mahmood added. He had earlier characterized Trump’s policy as “divisive and wrong”.
Two days after the family was stopped from boarding their flight, another British traveller, Ajmal Mansoor, an imam and lecturer based in Bristol, was turned away from boarding a flight to NY. It does not win the hearts and minds of people, it turns them off. I am amazed how irrational these processes are but does US care about what you and I think?
