A new classic is born in pulsating ‘Hateful Eight’

Quentin Tarantino is very good at reversals.

This is yet another roadblock for Tarantino, whose “Hateful Eight” script leaked online past year, nearly killed the bloody Western entirely.

The Hateful Eight is out in United Kingdom cinemas on January 8.

Tarantino has had a long and problematic history of the use of that word, extending all the way back to “Pulp Fiction”.

There are some amusing, biting lines and it’s a hoot to see the likes of Dern, Russell, Jackson, Goggins and Jason Leigh riffing off each other. This isn’t the first time that Hateful Eight has leaked. He can not let an idea play out without reminding us how clever he was to have come up with it – a tic that sorely undermines The Hateful Eight’s second half, which includes an ill-advised voice-over by Tarantino himself pointing out a tricky thing we might have missed, and a lengthy flashback that is utterly unnecessary to the larger story. 168 minutes (digital version)/187 minutes (roadshow version). “They sounded like bad guys in an ’80s action movie”.
