LeSean McCoy hung up on Chip Kelly earlier this week
They beat the Buffalo Bills and LeSean McCoy 23-20 Sunday.
Kelly tried reaching out to the Bills running back on Tuesday ahead of McCoy’s return to Philadelphia Sunday, calling McCoy from a number McCoy didn’t recognize, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report. This week was all about the Chip Kelly-LeSean McCoy feud.
ABOUT THE EAGLES (5-7): McCoy’s departure and the money saved in the transaction aided in Philadelphia acquiring quarterback Sam Bradford from St. Louis one week later, coach Chip Kelly confirmed on Thursday.
Buffalo’s running game has also forced opponents to bring the extra safety down in the box to slow the team’s ground attack and that affords more opportunities downfield in the pass game off play action.
The game itself was a tense battle with both teams going back and forth for the victory. He had a solid overall outing with 74 rushing yards and 35 receiving yards, but he never found the end zone, and, more importantly, his team lost.
-With the first possession of the second half, the Eagles worked efficiently and moved their lead back to a touchdown with Sturgis providing a 41-yard field goal (20-10) early in third quarter.
Bradford dealt with drops and bad receiver play, but played one of his best and most accurate games as an Eagle.
The Bills are 6-6 and now sit in the eight spot in the AFC playoff standings, behind a pack that consists of Kansas City, the Jets and Steelers.
But Rex Ryan was conciliatory toward the officials in his postgame press conference, having calmed down enough to say, somewhat drily, “that crew in particular is an outstanding crew and I’m sure they got it right”. And then McCoy declined to talk to reporters after the game, simply saying “I got nothing to say to y’all”. It was a game they led by 10 points midway through the third quarter before allowing the Bills to pull into a 20-20 tie.
McCoy, who is the Eagles’ all-time leading rusher, received a mixture of boos and cheers from fans at the Linc.
Dan Carpenter made field goals of 38 and 40 yards for Buffalo.
It’s no coincidence the Eagles got back on the winning track when Sam Bradford returned after missing 2 1/2 games. The Eagles went three-and-out, and on the ensuing punt, they were called for unnecessary roughness for a late hit out of bounds.
