Wenger Believes Man City Win Strengthens Arsenal’s Title Hopes
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said it was too soon to talk about his team winning the Premier League title after they beat one of their principle title race rivals, Manchester City, 2-1 on Monday.
First-half goals from Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud had put the hosts in charge, before Yaya Toure pulled one back late on. “So for a guy that could not prepare or work well he has done well physically”. “I believe he has developed his physical attributes, his physical commitment, you see a desire to win”.
Arsenal now sit two points behind surprise leaders Leicester City heading into the busy festive period, with Manuel Pellegrini’s side four points further adrift in third. “When I see our players up front working as hard as they did that makes a difference for us defenders, it makes it much more easier to defend our goal”.
Mesut Özil seems to be the strongest force within Arsenal FC, as they make their way towards a credible challenge after many years. “We have 63 points more to win”.
And Mertesacker revealed the Arsenal players now try to find Ozil at every opportunity as they are so confident that he can unlock any defence in the country.
“I think he will be back around the 10th of January”.
Mesut Ozil drew plaudits following another impressive display against City and Flamini is delighted with the Germany international’s form this season following criticism of some inconsistent displays in his Arsenal career to date.
Big-money summer signing Kevin de Bruyne summed up their evening in north London as he kicked the corner flag when trying to take a short corner, before missing the target just moments before Walcott’s opener.
“This is the first year that possession does not give you the win like before”.
“There are games that you have to be intelligent”.
“The amount he gives to this squad, the threat going forward and defensively as well”.
When asked by reporters if he deserved to be starting instead of coming off the bench in the second half, Bony said: “I think so”.
