Poll Shows Cruz Gaining On Trump In Republican Presidential Race
On key fundamental measures, she’s disliked and distrusted by voters: Republican voters must decide which GOP candidate is best positioned and equipped to exploit these weaknesses.
In match-ups, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton beat out Trump at 47 to 40, and just barely beats Rubio at 44 to 43. A Trump victory would be a “self-inflicted tsunami for the GOP”, according to an anonymous New Hampshire Democrat.
Trump’s relationship with gender issues is in the news again due to a remark about Mrs. Clinton he made on the stump in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Monday.
If Sanders were the Democratic nominee, the poll found that both Cruz and Rubio would defeat the self-described Democratic-socialist.
“It’s a very serious matter when you hear some of the things he and unfortunately some of the others have been saying”, Clinton said.
He also mocked Clinton for returning to the debate late following a commercial break.
“I don’t like that, I’m totally against that”, said Trump.
Cruz’s submissiveness to Trump is – depending on your tolerance for insincerity in the service of a larger political goal – either appallingly or gloriously disingenuous.
We’ll start with the general electorate.
Quinnipiac University Poll results released Tuesday showed Christie at 6 percent nationally.
“Among adults with a bachelor’s degree or postgraduate degree, Trump performs about 10 percentage points better online than via live telephone”. Ted Cruz has rocketed into first place. If you look at the detailed numbers in this poll, by wide measures women are less likely to consider Trump electable, to say that he has the qualities needed in a president, to say he is a strong leader, and so forth.
Polls may be underestimating Donald Trump’s support, according to intriguing new research that says the Republican front-runner benefits from a “social desirability bias”-some people who plan to vote for him are too embarrassed to admit it”. That’s more than double the share backing Cruz, who, at 18%, has inched up 2 points since the last CNN/ORC poll, which was taken in late November.
What the poll also shows is that Trump might finally be grating on a lot of the public with the constant statements that aren’t just politically incorrect but crude.
While references to male genitalia and insults about Clinton’s need to use a restroom may please Trump’s existing supporters, there’s also evidence that he may have to work hard to win over other voters. The percentage of people who view him negatively is 26 points higher than the percentage who view him positively. Fox has him winning among males by 46 to 41. As the Washington Post’s Justin Moyer pointed out, NPR’s own Neal Conan used it on the air in 2011, explaining that the Walter Mondale-Geraldine Ferraro presidential ticket “went on to get schlonged at the polls” in the 1984 election.
The findings are a blow to Trump’s campaign after months of dominating the polls. As the campaign has progressed, his gender gap has only widened. But that won’t help him much in New Hampshire, where religious conservatives are scarce on the ground.
