BSF Personnel Killed As Plane crashes In Delhi
BSF officials on Tuesday said that the plane crash has been the biggest of its kind and the army lost ten of its most experienced men in the army force. Union home Minister Rajnath Singh briefed high Minister Narendra Modi about the crash and has rushed to the crash site. “I going to the spot where the crash took place”.
“Extremely sad to learn of the BSF plane crash near Delhi airport”.
The DG said he would not be able to comment if the ill-fated aircraft gave a “Mayday” signal to the ATC.
Confirming the dying toll, minister of state for tradition and tourism and civil aviation Mahesh Sharma stated, “This is a really unhappy incident”.
A piece of plane wreckage is hoisted by a crane as rescue personnel look on at the crash site of a chartered army plane close to the main airport in New Delhi. Eyewitnesses stated the aircraft hit a wall earlier than bursting into flames after which crashed right into a water body.
The Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd said a “serious tragic incident occurred outside the airport boundary wall” within minutes after the plane took off. “I don’t know when will these new aircrafts come but surely he will not be there to see them”, said the father-in-law of the co-pilot Rajesh Shivrain.
One body has been recovered so far and the status of the other people aboard the plane is unclear, he said.
Two labourers, including a woman, working near the airport’s boundary were seriously injured after smouldering parts of the 1994-built aircraft fell on them. “These are the only three things we are investigating”, the source said.
Initial investigations suggested the aircraft overshot the runway while taking off, which could have caused some damage that forced the plane to turn back.
“Why are old aircraft being used and lives of troops put at risk?” a distraught and agitated daughter of Sub-Inspector Rabinder Kumar, who was among those killed in the crash asked Singh.
Officials said the Mi-17 chopper based in Ranchi is tasked for air support roles in anti-Naxal operations.
