Video Shows Panthers Confronting Odell Beckham With Bat Before He Headbutted Rival
NFL VP of officiating Dean Blandino said that he spoke with an official at the height of the personal foul battles between NY and Carolina, and told him that the league would support the ejection of Odell Beckham Jr., and possibly Josh Norman as well.
Those wondering why there weren’t any ejections from last Sunday’s New York Giants-Carolina Panthers game are not alone.
But it was more than that between them as the two engaged in a number of verbal and physical altercations.
Shutdown Corner has learned that the league sent out a memo to all 32 teams on Tuesday, hoping to avoid the violent contact that led to Beckham receiving a one-game suspension for his actions, targeting Norman on a helmet-to-helmet hit.
Many people were calling for Beckham’s ejection as the game wore on, with Norman echoing those sentiments post-game.
Hanks specifically pointed to a late helmet-to-helmet hit against a defenseless player in which Beckham left his feet prior to contact to spring forward and upward into his opponent (Norman); lowered his helmet and initiated forcible contact with his helmet; and forcibly struck the defenseless player’s head. If Beckham’s appeal is turned down, the Giants will be without their best offensive option. The Giants trailed the unbeaten Panthers 35-7 in the third quarter, but clawed their way back and tied the game 35-35 when, you guessed it, Beckham caught a touchdown over Norman with 1:46 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Rivera said today that he did not hear any Panther threaten Beckham and that Ball denied using any homophobic slurs.
Beckham and union officials had a conference call Monday night to discuss the appeal procedure, sources said.
On Wednesday it was announced that Norman was fined a total of a little over $26,000 for two separate incidents on Sunday.
In the meantime, Beckham is allowed to practice with the Giants and the Vikings must prepare as though Beckham will play. He would be reinstated Monday.
Should Beckham still be suspended? “If you want to play, let’s play it straight up, let’s do it the right way”. Insinuating to Odell Beckham ‘I’m gonna end your career, it’s gonna be over, I’m gonna blow you out, I’m gonna blow your knees out’. Anything could happen when you put a bat in someone’s hands and if things would’ve escalated the player could’ve used it. He was primarily covered by Norman and Cortland Finnegan, who he also fought with.
