Cruz sees ‘two-man race’ with Trump for GOP nomination
Bloomberg points out that it’s possible that this poll is bleaker than necessary: online polls are notoriously unreliable, and the Trump-favoring constituency historically has poor voter turnout. The pollster, though, warns the “race is still young” and “there is still much room for movement for virtually all of the candidates”.
To qualify for the primetime debate, candidates would either have to place in the top six of the five most recent national polls; in the top five of the five most recent Iowa polls; or in the top five of the five most recent New Hampshire polls, the network said.
After a fall spent criss-crossing the country to campaign, raise money and appear in televised debates, early-state supporters want Bush to settle down and focus primarily on meeting voters. The results were obtained by FloridaPolitics.com on Tuesday. The senator ended his White House bid on Monday after facing strong attacks from Trump, who once gave out Graham’s cellphone number to a large crowd in retribution for an attack.
The poll found Florida Sen.
Marco Rubio holds steady in Iowa, at 12 percent and was up from 11 percent last month. Florida’s primary is March 15. An adviser tells U.S. News he is confident the Bush campaign will be able to roll out a significant chunk of the Graham coalition as its own in the coming days, if not sooner. He has not made as many visits to early voting states like New Hampshire as other GOP hopefuls. His “strategy”, such as it is, is to count on momentum from a big win plus the sheer volume of anti-Trump, anti-Cruz sentiment among the center-right to propel him to the nomination. Overall, 43 percent of Republicans think that event occurred to 29 percent who don’t. In the general, he is signaling that he will employ a strategy like that of past election winners: Like Cruz, he will seek to mobilize the base; more than Cruz, he will attempt to persuade non-ideological voters that his agenda will make a positive difference in their lives.
The poll also finds that the real estate tycoon would lose to both of the leading Democratic candidates, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Sen. But Trump did mention Clinton during his campaign rally.
The PAC’s spending plan remains critical because it raised $103 million before Bush declared his candidacy, giving him a sizable cash advantage over his rivals.
Republican presidential debate season is not even halfway over, but already there’s a palpable feeling of repetition.
The voters in the focus group “believed there is a profound alienation between them and their elected leaders at virtually all levels of government”, Tyson writes. Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes’ version also has not passed. I think that Cruz is a little bit too far to the right for me. That’s more than double the share backing Cruz, who, at 18%, has inched up 2 points since the last CNN/ORC poll, which was taken in late November. Supporters of all the other major GOP candidates are opposed to shutting down mosques – 32/48 with Carson backers, 25/44 with those of Cruz, 9/66 with Rubio voters, and 9/69 with Bush’s.
